Following the FIA’s decision to freeze engine development as from the start of next season, Red Bull and Honda have reached an agreement whereby Red Bull Racing and ourselves, Scuderia AlphaTauri, will continue to use the Honda power unit up until the introduction of the new generation of power unit in 2025.

Dr Helmut Marko (Red Bull Motorsport Advisor):

“We have been discussing this topic with Honda for some time and following the FIA’s decision to freeze power unit development from 2022, we could at last reach an agreement regarding the continued use of Honda’s hybrid power units. We are grateful for Honda’s collaboration in this regard and for helping to ensure that both Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri continue to have competitive power units. The establishment of Red Bull Powertrains Limited is a bold move by Red Bull but it is one we have made after careful and detailed consideration. We are aware of the huge commitment required but we believe the creation of this new company is the most competitive option for both teams.”

Franz Tost (Team Principal)
:

“Honda has invested tirelessly and intensively in hybrid technology to achieve a very competitive Power Unit, our relationship has always been both very efficient and enjoyable. Now, we are very pleased that as from the beginning of 2022 we’ll continue using Honda Power Unit technology operated by the new born Red Bull Powertrains Limited. Developing the infrastructure for operating the PU in-house will bring Red Bull to another level in terms of independence and performance. I would like to thank the FIA and Formula 1 Management, together with all the teams, for having unanimously agreed on the engine freeze from the start of next year, which has enabled this agreement to be reached. We believe this is the best solution for the future of both Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri, until the next generation engines are introduced in 2025. It’s also a great incentive to achieve the best possible results in Honda’s last season in the sport.”
