meet Daniel

After enjoying karting success in his native Australia, Daniel Ricciardo moved to Italy in 2007 to take part in Formula Renault 2.0. Great results saw him recruited to the Red Bull Junior Team and the following season he repaid the faith shown in him by winning the Formula Renault WEC 2.0 championship. He went on to win the British Formula 3 series in 2009, taking the title just a few weeks after driving a Formula 1 car for the first time at a test in Spain.

He then tackled Formula Renault 3.5 for the next two seasons, while also getting to grips with a Formula 1 car at various tests at the wheel of our car in the Scuderia Toro Rosso days. Then in 2011 he was taken on as a full time Formula 1 driver with HRT.

At the end of the year came the news that he would be joining Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2012. At the wheel of our STR7 he scored points in his first home race, the Australian Grand Prix, with a ninth place finish. He scored points a further five times finishing his rookie season with 10 points to his name. The following season, he scored 20 points, his best finishes being seventh places in China and Italy. When Mark Webber retired at the end of 2013, Daniel replaced him at Red Bull Racing alongside four times world champion Sebastian Vettel.

In 2014,  his first year with Red Bull Racing, Ricciardo won three times, taking his maiden F1 win in Canada, before two more victories in Hungary and Belgium. He added eight further podium finishes to his tally that year and with Vettel heading off to Ferrari for 2015, Daniel led the team, finishing on the podium twice in what was a difficult year for the squad.

After five years and several great wins to his name at Red Bull Racing, he decided to leave Milton Keynes, spending two years with Renault and two with McLaren. He took an incredible win for the Woking squad in the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, but he struggled in 2022 and so the Australian and McLaren agreed to go their separate ways.

Daniel headed back to his old home at Red Bull Racing, working in the simulator and supporting the team’s commercial activities. He rejoined us in July 2023, racing in the second half of the Formula 1 World Championship alongside Yuki Tsunoda. However, an accident in the second free practice session at the Dutch Grand Prix meant that our reserve driver Liam Lawson had to step in at the very last minute to drive the rest of the weekend in Zandvoort for us. The New Zealander drove another four races before Daniel was fit enough to return as from the United States Grand Prix. He will continue to drive for us in 2024.
