The AT01 was our first car under the Scuderia AlphaTauri banner
AlphaTauri is Red Bull’s premium fashion brand which has given rise to a new way of thinking about clothing, combining fashion and function.
Making the most of the very few rule changes for 2020, the AT01 was an evolution of the previous year’s STR14, the final car to bear the Scuderia Toro Rosso name. The main areas of development of the new car were the packaging of the Honda RA620H power unit, the electronics and the suspension. The hydraulic system, the suspension and gearbox were supplied by Milton Keynes-based Red Bull Technology, as part of the synergies implemented between ourselves and Red Bull Racing. Work focussed on improved packaging, also made possible through close collaboration with engine partner Honda and this resulted in a very compact car, which gave the engineers plenty of freedom when it came to aerodynamic development.
The major change from Toro Rosso to AlphaTauri was also reflected in the car’s new look. The ATO1 livery featured an unusual and striking combination of glossy white and opaque navy blue. It proved popular with fans, who voted the AT01 livery the best of the year in an on-line survey for Formula1.com.
Apart from pre-season plaudits, the AlphaTauri AT01 scored plenty of points. In the hands of Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat, it proved competitive and the two drivers were consistent top ten runners. The AT01 scored points in 15 of the 17 races run in 2020. The highlight was Pierre Gasly’s spectacular win at the home race in Monza, the Italian Grand Prix.
At the end of the 2020 Formula 1 season, the AT01 had proved to be a record breaking car, taking Scuderia AlphaTauri to seventh in the Constructors’ Championship with 107 points, the team’s highest ever score.
