The STR6 was the second car entirely designed and built by Scuderia Toro Rosso. For the 2011 Formula 1 World Championship, it was again entrusted to the Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari and the Swiss Sébastien Buemi, while the technical project was still spearheaded by Ascanelli, Butler and Petrucci.

The technical sheet

The Toro Rosso STR6 featured a monocoque made of composite material and equipped with a 2398 cc Ferrari V8 engine. In addition, for that season, the car used the KERS system, a system that recovered the kinetic energy produced by the car during braking to transform it into additional power.

The KERS system, supplied, like the engine, by Ferrari, stands for Kinetic Energy Recovery System and provided an overboost of 60 KW (equal to about 80 horsepower) for no more than 6.67 seconds per lap. Lastly, the car was fitted with Pirelli tyres and Brembo brakes.

STR6 results

The 2011 season was certainly better than the previous one and saw the two drivers – Buemi and Alguersuari – competing for points all year long. Out of 19 events on the calendar, the Toro Rosso STR6 scored points on 10 occasions, getting two cars in the top ten in four Grands Prix: Canada, Hungary, Italy and Korea.

At the end of the season, the STR6 had a total of 41 points and the team was eighth in the Constructors’ World Championship.
