The ten F1 teams all take part and the season begins with the Pro Draft, when each team selects one or more drivers to join those already on the squad, so as to have a roster of three drivers each. The software platform is Codemasters F1 2020, Formula 1’s official game.
Each round consists of all the usual phases of a race weekend, with free practice, qualifying and the race itself, run over 35% of the distance of the real grand prix. The F1 Pro Series 2020 runs from October to December, over four rounds of three races each. Usually, the events are held at the GFinity Esports Arena in London, but because of the Covid-19 pandemic, all drivers race remotely from home or, in some cases, from the various team factories.
During the race, each driver must make at least one pit stop and use two different tyre compounds. Apart from race strategy and car set-up, driver skill is the only factor that makes the difference, because car performance is the same for everyone. Points are given out on the same scale as in the real Formula 1, including the extra point for the fastest lap of the race, as long the person setting it finishes in the top ten.
