2014 season

The 2014 Formula 1 season saw the most dramatic changes to the regulations in the last few decades, with the return of turbo engines and the introduction of the hybrid. The new 1600 cc turbocharged V6 engines were limited to 15000 rpm.

The hybrid part comprised of a thermal energy recovery systems (MGU-H) and a kinetic system (MGU-K). The rear wheels also featured an electronic brake-by-wire system. electronic system for controlling the brakes on the rear tyres, the brake-by-wire.

The STR9 was built in Faenza, inaugurating the new partnership with Renault who provided the new power unit. Our driver line-up changed slightly: alongside the Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne was the Russian rookie Daniil Kvyat.

The season got off to a good start and both drivers finished in the points in the Australian GP. The car was competitive but the power unit had some teething problems which affected reliability. The best result of the season was Vergne’s sixth place in the Singapore Grand Prix. We finished the 2014 season in seventh place on 30 points.
