Discover the 2023 Team!
Scuderia AlphaTauri is one of two Red Bull-owned Formula 1 teams. From 2006 to 2019 it was known as Scuderia Toro Rosso and since 2020, its name bears allegiance to the Red Bull group’s premium fashion brand. It is a well established team in the world of Formula 1 and has made significant progress over the last few years, thanks to constant progress on the racing front and growth as a company.
Our team is Italian at heart, but it is made up of people from all around the world, with no fewer than 35 different nationalities on the payroll. What has not changed is the team’s commitment to bringing on young talent, in terms of its drivers and also of its workforce and it is now a major player on the world motorsport stage with a highly trained group of people at its core.
Today’s Formula 1 calls for a high level of specialist skills in every area, from design to production and every member of staff plays a vital role. Even the smallest increase in performance can make a big different in such a competitive environment, both at the track and back at base. The team facilities have also evolved considerably over the years so that today the factory is state of the art, using the very latest technology and equipment while also taking environmental sustainability into account.
2020 marked the start of a new era for the team, with Red Bull choosing to use it to promote its premium fashion brand, which is why our team now bears the name AlphaTauri. It means that since then, on track and in our factories in Faenza, Italy and Bicester, UK our team has a new look.
AlphaTauri is a stand-alone premium fashion brand featuring innovative technologies integrated with high-quality and uniquely designed styles. The brand combines textile innovations, purposeful design and premium materials. Within the F1 environment AlphaTauri can progress and cement its pioneering approach with innovations and textile technologies, acquiring new insights from its involvement with us.
Apart from all these changes, 2020 was also the year in which we won again: Pierre Gasly triumphed in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, ensuring that the first year of the AlphaTauri Formula 1 era got off to a winning start with the AT01 car. We had done this before in Monza, back in 2008 when Sebastian Vettel won with the STR3, the third Toro Rosso car. 2020 thus built on the success we saw in 2019 when we finished on the podium twice, courtesy of Daniil Kvyat’s third place in Germany and Pierre Gasly’s second in Brazil.
2021 was another very successful season with great results including Gasly’s podium finish in Azerbaijan. Alongside him in the other AT02 was Japanese rookie, Yuki Tsunoda, a product of the Red Bull Junior Team, the training programme for youngsters. We keep the same line-up for 2022, a season which has seen a radical shake-up to the technical regulations.
For the start of the 2023 Formula 1 season, Scuderia AlphaTauri’s driver line-up consisted of Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda, in his third year with the team and Nyck de Vries. The Dutchman was replaced, as from the Hungarian GP in July, by Daniel Ricciardo. However, the Australian injured his hand in free practice for the Dutch GP in August, which meant he was replaced for the rest of that event by New Zealander Liam Lawson, the team’s reserve driver who will continue to drive until Ricciardo is fit to race again.
Our technical team is headed up by Jody Egginton, who oversees the design of our cars, including this year’s AT04. Franz Tost is still at the helm as Team Principal, as he has been since 2005.
