F1 Eスポーツ

F1 Eスポーツ

Esports is a word one hears a lot these days; an abbreviation of Electronic sports, which refers to competitions featuring video games.

These games are no longer just a hobby for small kids, they have become a global phenomenon, a sport played on gaming platforms for a wide range of disciplines, usually seeing competitors going up against one another on-line from anywhere in the world.

Formula 1 now has a stake in this world and in 2018, the first F1 Esports World Championship was organised, featuring virtual races and we took part, entering our own official team.

Just like on the race track, in Esports, training, professionalism and meticulous preparation are what deliver results.

It’s not easy to make it to the top in Esports racing: obviously one needs talent, as well as a real passion for it and a massive helping of dedication.

In fact, a lot of drivers have made the switch from real racing on track, to trying their luck in the virtual world, competing in the F1 Esports Series Pro Championship.

Scuderia AlphaTauri Orlen Esports Team

In 2018, we brought home an impressive second place in the Constructors’ classification, thanks to a fantastic performance from our drivers: Cem Bolukbasi (Turkey,) Patrick Holzmann (Germany) and Frederik Rasmussen (Denmark.)

Our team is always looking to the future and so we are proud to continue taking part in the F1 Esports Series, a category that is forward looking and innovative, two characteristics that are very much part of the spirit of our team. In 2022 we had a very competitive line-up with Sebastian Job and Joni Tormala, confirmed from 2021, teaming up with Josh Idowu, all coming from the Oracle Red Bull Racing Esports sim-racers’ pool.
